Mistaken Identity

At first I thought this intense flower in the neighbor's yard was a Double Delight rose, but the pods definitely scream poppy. Usually around here you see the ubiquitous orange California poppy, or those big fluffy pink ones which come a lot later in the season. So it was a nice surprise. 

It was such an interesting two block stroll to pick up the wonton soup--in addition to the poppy I found a neighbor selling a varied selection of succulents, and, in another yard, a new bee hive (which seems a bit close to the sidewalk--I was definitely in the stream of bees that was whizzing home).
