Woodyard

Finally I’ve hauled all the hazel, field maple and willow from the overgrown coppice I cleared earlier in the year. A lot of the wood is for the stove next year. I’ll have to work out what to do with the straight lengths and whips. Walking sticks, hurdles, trellises, bean poles etc. or maybe not.

I didn’t realise how much I was taking on but I got there in the end. Regional law permits hazel coppicing on a twelve year cycle so I can put my feet up for a bit, unless we buy the hazel woods below us and the chestnut woods above. And of course I’ll need to keep the bramble and other invasive stuff down until the coppice is regrown, the local deer permitting.
