Not a palm

Stayed overnight in Auckland, and was at work early. Started on a Clinical Report, interruptions making it take longer than it ought. AND then i discovered when I went to print it, that various changes and additions had neither printed nor been saved. The same happened with a second one later in the day. This appears to have happened as a result of an "upgrade" in the electronic record we use. The initial response of the IT people was , so put up with it. A little pressure brought a slightly different response, but no increase in urgency. After all, it's only mental health.

The problem is greater because IT for the whole DHB is provided by an "independent" company. If the IT was provided within our DHB it would probably still be less than perfect, but when it's not even the same employer, there is no loyalty. 

And it's not just mental health. The discharge letters to GPs were a disaster 20 years ago in the DHB I was then with, because at 129 characters, the letter stopped. Without informing the writer of that. So House officers gaily typed away and GPs wondered why letters stopped mid sentence or even mid word. As I was then Chief Medical Officer I created bobsi-di for months it took until they changed it, even though the fix took minutes at most. 

This photo of Millenium Tree in Pukekawa, was taken this evening as I waited for S to collect me to start what turned out to be a long slow drive back north. I am very glad to be working from home tomorrow morning with the afternoon off.
