Discouragement

I was up early this morning to do my Breeding Bird Survey. We missed out last year because of the pandemic, so it was great to get back to it. It was a perfect morning for it - clear, still and sunny. The highlight was hearing my first Cuckoo of the year. I don't take my camera, as it constitutes too much baggage - what with my clipboard, walking pole and binoculars. Hence another garden blip. I think this could be the male blackbird that is the mate of our nest builder. At any rate, what can't be seen or heard in the photo, is the discouragement he's giving to a nearby Magpie.
