Tales of the river

I took a walk along the Water of Leith at lunchtime having been alerted that ducklings had been spotted. I found them swimming about with their Mum - only three of them, so I don’t know if some had already been lost. All of a sudden there was a great commotion- a heron swooped down, but Mother Duck spotted it in the nick of time and scared it off and chased it further along the river. The heron hung about for a while menacingly, but then seemed to give up and flew off. Luckily there were still three baby ducks! All very dramatic. I missed a photo of the attack, but the heron is in the extra, after having been seen off by the defending mother.
