In Town
I popped into town first thing this morning to get a few things at the bakers. It was good to see the Union Jack being flown at half mast as a sign of respect marking the death of the Duke of Edinburgh. The sign outside the butchers made me smile. Brilliant to see Rachael Blackmore winning the Grand National on Minella Times, the first female jockey to win the National - what a year she's had.
Day 390 / Day 95 of Lockdown 3 / Day 34 of Step 1 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
UK deaths up 40 to 127,080 (revised basis), with 2,589 new cases, 2,862 patients in hospital, 406 on ventilation and 221 new admissions. 32m have now received their first dose of the vaccine and 7m have had their second dose. The head of the WHO talks about a 'shocking imbalance' in the global distribution of vaccines with 1 in 4 having received at least one dose in rich countries, but only 1 in 500 in low-income countries. A key reason is the ban on exports from the massive factory in India, caused by a surge in cases in India. Whilst most crimes saw a drop in the last year due to people being in lockdown, drugs offences spiked but this was simply due to police being able to target dealers more easily.
