Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

RIP Prince Philip

JR went to the supermarket first thing, and was happily engaged in culinary tasks (nibbles for tomorrow’s visit from Hazel) - also, we were expecting two deliveries - so Archie and I set off for a big walk, it being a sunny day with NO cold wind!

I’ve been meaning to get down to Inverleith Park for ages, so today was the day. Bus down to Stockbridge, then a walk round the park. It was busy with picnickers and dog walkers, enjoying the sunshine. A nice view of the Edinburgh skyline - Arthur’s Seat and the Castle visible. While walking I listened to a couple of podcasts - one about the sudden end to the mink farming industry in Denmark and the mass extinction of millions of mink due to Covid fears. Interesting.

We then walked along the Water of Leith to Cannonmills - not far. JR would have walked on right to the end - Leith - but I didn’t (it’s quite far). A handy bus back up into town, where I realised, though I had the dog, I could still get a Prêt coffee, as you weren’t allowed in anyway. So, a stop for a coffee in town, then a bus home. (5,246 steps).

As I walked home, not even on my road, I passed the most awful piles of litter, even worse than usual (Extras). I could not leave it there, so I went back out to tidy it up. Several rubbish bags full! I even did a couple of paths - how can people walk by piles of rubbish in their own pathway?

Met an old chap whom I meet regularly, who told me of the sad news of the death of Prince Philip, so I’ve been listening to/watching all the news. Such an amazing man, ahead of his time in many ways! Excellent coverage of his life, which has obviously been ready to air for some time. Poor Queen. Not many people have the privilege of being married for 73 years.
