A day out
Today's Richard's birthday - 69.
So in the context of lockdown restrictions starting to ease a little, we went on a day trip to Bridlington to mark the occasion - the first time we've gone beyond Sheffield city boundaries in over 3 months. Woohoo!
Travelling felt a little odd, and the M1 and M18 were as busy as in pre-Covid days. That part was a bit stressful (I hate motorway driving at the best of times).
But then the E Yorks roads were quiet and pretty. And with a chillly N/NE wind blowing, Bridlington was quiet too. We had a good walk along the beach, explored the harbour, bought fish and chips and then went up the coast to Flamborough Head. Neither of us had been to Bridlington for decades; our seaside trips tend to be to the west rather than the east, to N Wales and N Ireland. Both of us were surprised to see that there are still signs of an active fishing industry in Bridlington harbour. Where are they selling their catch, we wondered - and have the Brexit troubles hit them too?
