Stump of felled tree

This was also yesterday. ('You bounder, you cheat!') I was interested in the colours. I'm thinking it was a coniferous tree, but what type I don't know. They have obviously been doing some selective felling to make it easier for other trees to breathe. I didn't put in extras yesterday, so here are a couple today. (Oh no, is that a wee monstor?)
