Ventured out.........
.............for the first time since Saturday night! Was difficult changing gear 'cos' my left knee is still very painful ! - never mind, I managed.
This is a picture I have wanted to take for quite a while. It is St. Mary Magdalene church at the small village of Fleet and is, I think, most unusual in that the Tower with spire and clock is entirely separate from the rest of the building. Although I picked up all the leaflets etc, the tower is mentioned but they don't tell you WHY it it is detached. Tradition holds that the Church was built by the monks of Castle Acre (Norfolk) but records show that the church already existed, it's gift to the Cluniac priory by Fulk of Fleet before setting off for Jerusalem in the 12th Century. The Tower is 112ft high and originally held six bells. The bells were removed in 1999 for refurbishment and a new bell cast, "Big Tom"; in memory of churchwarden. Thomas Twell. The bells were rehung in 2000 and are rung regularly. The whole looked particularly attractive this afternoon in the late afternoon sun.
What a lovely day - a very misty start but this was soon burnt off by the slightly hazy sun and although the temperature was only reading 7 deg.C., it felt really warm in the sun.

Have a pleasant evening.
