Diary of an Edinburgher

No pastries!

The day was sunny, then ominous dark rain clouds, then sunny again, but the cold wind was a constant. I decided to take Archie and JR to a new park, one that I used to visit during my brief bird watching days, but neither of them have been.

We set off to the bus in bright sunshine, but dark clouds suddenly appeared and JR refused to set off on a jaunt. So we went across the Links to send off yet more returns. And of course, the bright sunshine returned, so we could have gone. Never mind - another day.

The others then wanted to walk further to make their 10,000 steps, but I came home, via the French bakery, where I gazed longingly at the flans and croissants, but settled for a coffee and sat in the sun on their wee bench outside. However, I got my favourite (San Francisco) sourdough at the corner shop.

Yesterday, not for the first time, one of my very expensive Apple earbuds fell out as I crossed the road, carrying a coffee and a doughnut in one hand and the dog’s lead in the other, so I couldn’t stop it. And I certainly didn’t want to drop my doughnut. But I am so afraid of losing an earbud, but I had the excellent idea of trying a slighly larger bud, which works much better.

I have been trying to learn the phonetic alphabet - it’s a great way to put yourself to sleep, except when you cannot remember a letter, and just have to check your phone. It’ll come in handy sometime, I’m sure.

Amazing news of the humungous cargo ship stuck across the Suez Canal. Hundreds of ships are waiting, but to go round the Horn of Africa would add on about 10 days and £millions. I would not want to be that cap’n!
