Newcastle Downunder

The gang's all here

Just a little over two weeks ago a chartered flight landed in Sydney full of surfers and their support teams.   They were quarantined for 2 weeks and released on Monday.  Unlike the tennis players who came to the Australian open in Melbourne and complained about their quarantine, these surfers are cool dudes and we haven't heard a peep out of them.  Next week, the World Surf League hits Newie and already a lot of the surfers are in town.

The chap that does the surf report in the morning says you can tell if they are out by the new rental cars in the carpark and the camera crew.  Apparently a lot of them have their own photographers which they use for training purposes.  I wonder if I could get a gig doing that.

I stopped at Dixon park on my way back home from the physio and sure enough, camera crew were spotted, rental cars were in the carpark and you can just tell the pro surfers.   There were lots of rubber neckers with binoculars which I would hear exclaim "yes, I'm sure that's her (or him)" and the inevitable selfies.

The first extra is Carissa Moore from Hawaii - second ranked female pro surfer.  I don't know who the red devil is in the next extra and the last is one of the "crew".

The main is to show you the nice curlers with the offshore and also the muddy colour of the sea after all that rain.  There was lots of barrelling going on, mostly with wipeouts at the end.

It's been lovely to see the sun again.   Oh and the winds have picked up a bit and the branches that had fallen in my neighbours tree fell a bit further but have missed my shed and will fall on my neighbours if they drop any further.
