Hallas Bridge

This bridge links the villages of Cullingworth and Harden/Wilsden. It is nearly at the top of the Goit Stock valley and is just below the farm where I was brought up, so familiar territory.

We decided to get out early whilst it was quiet. We waved at our son as we passed his house who was surprised we didn’t stop for a chat but we’ll see him later. Up Hunters Hill and over to Cullingworth our neighbouring village. The Rookery was full of noise and bustle. I love the sound, it takes me back to my childhood. We couldn’t decide if the birds were refurbishing the old nests or robbing them for material for new nests.

We saw and heard several Curlews, another lovely sound.

We dropped down to Cullingworth through Ella Carr, with recollections of school nature walks from any years ago. Sadly no coffee places open today being Sunday so we carried on through the village before dropping down Hallas Lane, past my old home, to Hallas Bridge seen in the blip.

We hadn’t seen many people till this point but it started to get busier. A sign of how popular Goit Stock has become during the Covid lockdowns. We walked past the waterfalls, at the main one there was already a couple of families, one person had a wet suit on so was presumably intending going in the Beck.

We carried on sown the valley spotting first a lovely Grey Wagtail and then a Dipper, maybe two, with one further down the Beck. 

Nearly 6 miles so a good walk. Feeling a bit stiff now but I think that’s down to yesterday’s gardening!
