Red head
After a lunchtime site meeting in Glinton, I dropped in at Etton for a bit of decompression. The flat light wasn't the best, but it was good to just soak up some spring sights and sounds - a hedgerow frothing with creamy-white Blackthorn blossom; Little Grebes diving for food, their calls resounding over the lake; the companionable grunting of several pairs of understated Gadwall.
And a flock of small birds gathering seed from the flooded edge of the gravel pit, occasionally flying up to investigate the cones of Alder. They were silhoutted against the light, but eventually I was able to see that they were a group of Lesser Redpoll accompanied by a couple of Reed Bunting. This was the only decent shot I managed, when they briefly landed in the top of a young oak tree along the bridleway.
