Hey, Hey, Hey Beautiful Sunday
There's so much going on at The Kiltwalk it's hard keeping up, however there seems to be just as much going on amongst our Kiltwalkers, which is fantastic. There are #soupwalksundays and wee walks going on all over the place along with charity fundraising nights throughout the country. It's pure dead kiltwalk mental.
One of the events that took place this weekend was #soupwalksunday, the idea of Darren Wilson, mine host and proprietor of the Waterside Inn on Glasgow's South Side. His offer was to lay on piping hot soup for any Kiltwalkers who wanted to do a bit of training with other walkers and finish at the Waterside.
When he asked how many might come then I said "maybe 12-15". Well how wrong was I? cause 35 of our Hampden walkers turned up for a ten mile ramble.
Two of our Kiltwalkers, who can never refuse a plate of soup, particularly when it's free, are these two lovely ladies Wilma (left) and Geraldine (right).
Long story short, well we press ganged Wilma into taking part in this years event by attacking her weak spot i.e. the offer of a night out involving food and alcohol and she duly obliged by signing up and haranguing her pals into doing it too.
Wilma has taken to the keyboard to blog about her Kiltwalk adventure and rather than me blether on anymore I'm going to hand over to Wilma to tell her tale in her own inevitable style. Take it away Wilma.
"Beautiful Sunday ? Hmmmm. A beautiful Sunday to me would generally be sitting on a beach with a large g&t in my hand and George Clooney applying my sun tan lotion. Not so this week ! It was #soupwalkSunday. The delightful Darren from Waterside Inn (@jeangebbie) had offered to feed all the hungry Kiltwalkers with soup at his fine establishment, after a bit of a stroll.
Stroll. Aye right! About 11 miles, almost half of it uphill. I was cursing Darren and Ian (@cribfather) for the first hour, in between gassing to Geraldine (@ginorgym). Alas poor @tartancat had to call off - let's just say, if it's good enough for the Queen, it's good enough for our Michelle. #attentionseeking
However, once we'd done the uphill bit, Barrhead - Newton Mearns, viavthe scary Dams Road, it was pretty flat/downhill the rest of the way. Met lots of lovely Kiltwalkers too, there were about 35 of us. And got some handy hints from those who've done the walk before. I loved that they all said it was a fantastic thing to do, great atmosphere and great fun. Darren surpassed himself by not only walking but serving us all a cracking bowl of soup afterwards. #topboy"
