Inosculation.

Yes, I did have to look the term up, no longer can I carry such information around in my memory.

It refers to the natural grafting which sometimes occurs.

Today was the first time I've visited this garden, temporary accommodation for my long term Wednesday customers whilst their new home is completed, and this fascinating Magnolia grows there. There are three separate stems which have grown together to create a fantastic growth about 1.5m above the ground. I know Beech and Hornbeam trees do this quite regularly but not magnolia, it's given me potential ideas for future shaping.

After work I spent the evening with RF who was still coughing badly and feeling poorly, I'm keeping fingers crossed it will improve soon.
