Against Modern Football

I wouldn't say I'm completely against modern football but I certainly understand the sentiment. It does sometimes feel like it has sold it's soul to the worship of money and commercialism - particularly at the elite level of the Premier League.
I've found the further you go up the football pyramid the less fun, enjoyment and character there is. I support my local team, Maidstone United (currently in the National League South), when I can and I must admit I preferred it when we played at a lower level - you would sometimes attend matches on pitches behind service stations, one of the fans would occasionally have to run the line if a linesman failed to turn up and we once even played a quarter final and a semi final of a cup competition on the same day (we won the latter by a bigger margin than the former)!
I can still remember the nicknames of some of the fans from that time too - Shouting Pete, Italian Bloke, Elvis (looked nothing like him and had no front teeth!) and Prosser The Tosser!

Today's image is actually the front of a t-shirt from philosophyfootball.com who call themselves a "sporting outfitter of intellectual distinction". The subjects of their apparel don't just relate to football but also include philosophers, music, history and tv and film. I love the fact that they are different and can also make you stop, think and in some cases laugh.

Watched another great documentary today - Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliche (on Sky Arts). Thoroughly recommended.
