Black cup fungus

We are home after 5 weeks travelling. Today we checked our garden and found the surface of one plant pot was covered in a mass of small fungus. A close look (macro lens for today's blip) showed a mass of small black 'cups' (3-5mm diameter) with pebbly-like particles inside. Some googling suggests this is a kind of birds nest fungus - though I think 'black cup' is an equally good description.
