Joyride's End

I could have gone for a permitted walk yesterday when the sun was out and spring appeared to have sprung but for some reason I decided to set out today in the early afternoon with glowering skies and no coat or umbrella. You can guess the rest - about a third of the way into my walk the heavens opened and I got completely and utterly drenched. Entirely of my own making!
There was no point in turning back so I continued out towards East Malling Research Station and just decided to enjoy being out in the elements. It was actually quite invigorating.
The hunt for a picture was not going so well - at one point I had an image of a warning sign in front of a gate and tree which I was going to name "Cautious Catkins" (atrocious title!) - catkins being the flowering spike of the hazel tree in the image.
However, the photographic gods were smiling on me and through, the by now, almost torrential rain (you can see the big fat raindrops in today's image) I spotted the outline of this burn out car just off the single track road in front of me. By this time it had started to get so dark that it felt like late evening rather than early afternoon. Therefore, I had to use fill in flash to get any kind of shot at all but I think it actually helps to make it a stronger image.
I still had over a mile to get back home after taking my image and the rain only abated, typically, a few hundred yards from finishing my walk. My jeans had a tide mark up to the knees and were splattered with mud, my hair was plastered to my head and my trainers had let in water but strangely I had thoroughly enjoyed it!
