Shrivelled fruit...

... of the white cedar, also known in some places as the Chinaberry tree. It's unusual in that it's an Australian native which loses all its leaves in winter, letting in light when we want to maximise it. In spring it has prolific small lilac flowers which produce yellow-orange berries, gradually drying out and persisting on the tree through the winter. The one in the photo is about 15mm along its long axis.

The main use of the white cedar tree is for timber. The leaves and bark have a range of medicinal properties. Also growing throughout south east Asia and India, they are valued for the shade they provide, as they are in the Australian summer. We have one in our back yard.

Thanks for hosting Cathy1947. Stay well all.
