Who can guess what this is?

Jess was very happy today as we have had builders here to mend bits of our roof. One of them shared his lunchtime sandwich and threw a ball for her so now he is a friend for life.

Our house was built in 1792 and while I don’t think the roof is that old, it is certainly not new, either. Bits are slipping and tiles are cracking so more repairs, requiring scaffolding, will be needed in a few weeks’ time (happy Jess!).

The mystery object is some old lead which the builder found up on the roof- it was once molten and has set to resemble something from Pompeii!
