The New Zealand Wood Pigeon

The Mistress's mother chose this one for the blip today because the Mistress couldn't decide which one of the zoo photos I took was the best.

As we arrived at the zoo this morning, it was raining. HARD! The Mistress bought a $4 plastic poncho to wear to keep her dry. About half an hour later, the rain dried up and it was hot, sunny and steamy.

Auckland Zoo is amazing. The Mistress reckons it's one of the best Zoos in the world. This image was taken in the rainforest aviary. I was being pointed at a huge spider and web. The spider was as long as the Mistress's hand. While I was all lined up, this HUGE wood pigeon came and and landed right next to us. I thought it was going to land on my lens, or the Mistress's head.

As the Mistress was using my 120-400mm lens, she had to take a few photos with her cellphone, before stepping back 5 steps to take this.

The bird let us stroke his chest, and was also very interested in the chocolate that she took out to munch on. She didn't give him any though.

Lovely day at zoo with some superb photography. Lots of laughs at the photographing of this leaf on the ground after the rain. That we pay $25 to get into the zoo, to take photographs of a leaf. The Mistress with pop those ones up on her blog in the next couple of days...

You can see the blog here..

But don't forget to wait a couple of days - as she has to find the time to update it :)
