Water and rock

I went for a walk out on the big plain, called Alvaret this afternoon in the gorgeous weather. I wanted to experience Ölands highest waterfall which strangely enough is out here, on the flattest bit of the island. When the island was formed some cracks and ridges also was formed and this place has a two meter high ridge that slopes a bit. Long ago someone built a dam and a simple watermill here even though there isn't running water the year around, only during the spring flood or when we have particularly wet summers, which isn't often. The picture is taken from the top of the dam showing the landscape. In the summer it's completely dry here.

It's a beautiful landscape and as you can see we have quite a lot of water after the unusual amount of snow during the beginning of February. I added a few extra pictures too, the first is the waterfall from the bottom, but it was hard to get a good view of the "wildness" of the water. The second extra shows how the super clear water can easily fool the eye. You can't tell how deep it is. Right here, after taking the picture, I was going to cross the water but found it to be deeper than the height of my boot-shaft.
Thea last extra shows a rather unusual way of making a stone fence. This method only works here, where the limestone rock easily brakes up in slabs like here.
