Getting coal

Pensioners have to keep warm. Today we considered it was therefore an essential journey to the coal yard near Alnmouth where we can shovel up our own coal into bags. (That being cheaper than buying it already bagged up). We got £93 worth into the car. The coal no longer comes from Newcastle. Last time it was from Chile but this is far better. It is Scottish. However the guy at the weighbridge says the big suppliers are now getting it from Kazakhstan.

It was a gorgeous sunny day when we left home so I equipped myself with the sunglasses as we thought while so close to the sea we’d have a walk on the beach. It was so foggy we couldn’t see the sea as the tide was out as well.

The blip shows the coal yard and the beach where we saw more coal. It’s a long time since we’ve seen so much sea coal. Mr C used to collect it in his lunch hour when he worked nearby. We were hard up and once he’d bashed it to bits it worked in the Rayburn. We used the big bits at the sides of the coal fire as fire bricks. It really kept its heat. Thankfully we don’t have to do that now.
