Moral superiority

On a long walk along the Rochdale Canal today, I passed hundreds of other walkers and was passed by hundreds of cyclists.  Now, I am careful not to generalise, especially having read an excellent Simone Lia cartoon in today's Observer.  It seemed to me that whilst some cyclists were very careful when passing groups of walkers on the narrow towpath and most were polite, a significant number were careless, arrogant, rude and seemed genuinely to believe that they had a prior right to pedal furiously along and we mere pedestrians had to jolly well get out of their way.
