Mr Sparrowhawk

What an incredible sighting- this stunning sparrowhawk (I think a juvenile male) sat in our garden and seemed very content and quiet on this low branch for at least 2 hours! If you look closely there are some tell-tale feathers still on his talons, and I think this was some post prandial chill time. I later found a massacre scene of feathers on the ground nearby.
Interestingly, male raptors are always smaller than their female counterparts.
A real treat to sit and watch this guy. Such striking, fearsome eyes!
