A skylark’s song

Heard my first skylark of 2021 today out on the headland of West Sands and for me, this is a sure sign of Spring!
They whip up from the ground and burst into beautiful song, going higher and higher until they’re just a faint dot in the sky.

It took me totally by surprise and hearing this familiar sound after so long was like seeing a forgotten friend. I know I like a lot of birds, but I definitely have a soft spot for the skylark!
