The Steps
You wouldn't want to be taking a slip at the top of these steps.
There was zero friction on the ice. I found a place - not here (I'm not that stupid!) - where there was no easy alternative other than to try to walk gingerly across such a stretch of ice. I was standing in the middle and realised that it was impossible to shift my weight without losing my footing and falling over. I was as frozen in place as the ice itself.
I looked foolish just standing there. I was going to look even more foolish falling over. Just as I was about to succumb to the inevitable, the wind got up and came to my rescue, a gust blowing hard enough to push me back in a slide to where I'd just come from.
