A frenzy of spaffinches

A bright morning, very cold again, but others have it much worse. And what's the point of moaning when it looks like this?

Round the corner, outside the kitchen window, the spaffinches are breakfasting in the extra. Cohabiting in the evergreen shrubs we have a mixed flock of sparrows, chaffinches and dunnocks. Hence the name.

On days like this it's a feeding frenzy, with anything up to a couple of dozen coming and going at any one time. Impossible to capture in full, after standing there for ages, trying and missing, but here's a flavour of it. Put it this way. At the start of this, there were heaps of seeds and fat pellets. Half an hour later, there weren't.
