2021 Friday — Tree Trimmed View

Several months ago we asked our neighbors to the north if they would consider having the tree between our houses trimmed. It is actually on their property. It was blocking our view considerably, but they have no blocked windows, so I knew they possibly wouldn’t grasp the need for the pruning. So when we arrived back here at the coast the end of December, they suggested that it was time to have it taken care of.

They asked for a quote from someone they knew and we asked from someone we knew. We all agreed to have the trim completed by the man who had the least expensive quote.

Our neighbor had requested a tree on each side of their house to be pruned. The trimmer started on the other side of their house. When he finished with that tree, the neighbor scolded him for trimming too much. Then he trimmed the tree/shrub on our side and made almost no change in our view. He was afraid to trim too much and get scolded again. Of course, I was disappointed. But we did not tell the neighbor (she is a tree hugger).

A couple days later as our neighbor was preparing to leave for their main home in the San Francisco Bay Area; they suggested that we ask the tree trimmer to return to trim more. They knew that our view was still obstructed.

This afternoon the tree trimmer returned to do more trimming. We invited him to come inside our house as often as he needed to check the view, and he did. I kept telling him, “Zach, you are doing a great job; there’s just too much tree!” He agreed. But he kept trimming and trimming. We think Zach did a fabulous job considering how much tree is there. I think these two photos give a good compare and contrast.

We think our neighbor will be stunned by how much tree is missing. We know that they do not see the tree from anywhere in their home, so we don’t think this should bother them. Actually, I’d like to offer to purchase the tree/shrub from them with the expressed purpose of then having the tree removed. Who knows, maybe she’ll say yes.
