The river bed
Today was a day of final preparations before our departure. It is always sad to leave, even though it will be nice to catch up with family on our return. Fortunately, an otherwise flat day was lifted by a last minute invitation to lunch with friends who prepared a typical Alsatian meal for us, choucroute, saucisse de Morteau and frankfurters. Those who have been following my dental sagas, which had just finished on Tuesday, will not believe that I broke a tooth today and have another appointment this evening!
I wandered down to the river before lunch. There are times of the year when I could not take such a shot. Only last winter, the water was near the top of the walls for a period of several days. This river section was built after the disastrous floods of 1940 which swept away all the major hotels in the village.
