Pull Up To The Bumper

I don’t possess a pull up bar and, even if I did, I doubt any part of our house is strong enough to cope with me hanging off it! My trainer suggested an alternative - table pull ups. Lie under the table, grip the top and pull! A bit different to what you might do in a gym, but you’re still exercising the same muscles and with a body like mine you’re still moving quite a few kilos!!
The last time I posted a photo of me doing pull ups, it was in the gym at the end of October. On that occasion I was using a bit of assistance and managed about 80 reps in total over the session. Allowing for the different way of doing the pull ups today, I suspect the amount of weight I was moving was similar. And I managed about 40 reps in total. Obviously some strength has been lost over the past three months but I hope I can get some of that back by incorporating this exercise into my weekly workouts.
I do have a horrible feeling that, just as in lockdown one, gyms will be among the last places to reopen. If I don’t want to have to start from scratch again when I can go back, I need to keep up the regular home workouts and - more importantly - keep pushing for those extra reps to build muscle mass.
This time last year I was getting over a badly damaged back and had only just started to do very light exercises. I got back to full strength the week before we were locked down for the first time and I then couldn’t go back to the gym until August. This year, I’m not going to fall into that trap of working hard and then doing nothing for a few months. Working out little and often, combined with regular walking and running should keep me as healthy as possible until gyms reopen and/or I get my jab.
I’ve avoided this virus for nearly a year now. I don’t intend to let it get me now we’re actually seeing a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.
