My first Sour Dough

When I took the sour dough from its basket (it’s looking promising sitting there in the bottom pic) it went phffff in a collapse. Luckily I had my Le Creuset casserole pot already lined with foil and grease proof paper so I quickly scooped it in and covered it with the lid. It went in a cold oven which I turned on to 220 and left myself and it fretting for 50 minutes. When it came out and I lifted the lid I got a surprise as it really was a proper loaf. Result! And I tasted good too.

After this excitement, and still waiting for the post to deliver my wool for a blanket - I have a new crochet pattern - we braved the pouring rain for a 2 mile yomp to look at the floods. The river has burst its banks and the footbridge and play park are under water. It’s lapping at the wall of Janet’s house and all the cars from riverside properties have been moved to safety. A few years ago the river was 6ft higher than it is now and the road bridge was closed for safety. It is to rain heavily all night and tomorrow and there’s the snow on the hills to go somewhere.

I’m concerned - if the bridge has to close I can’t get over the river to the hospital for my Covid jab in the morning. Routes up the valley are all flooded and so are the moor road and the river road out of the village in the other direction. They are now closed to traffic.

Thomas and James had a chat on WhatsApp this afternoon. They were in good form. James took us up to his room where he showed us the lego he’d built and also some kind of bashing swishing thing which he demonstrated. He reminds me so much of Ben in Outnumbered! I had a great laugh with Jo on Facetime last night. Tonight I’m going to make a Salty Chihuahua cocktail for our WhatsApp with Andrea and Pete.

Have a good weekend - we hardly know which day it is till alcohol night!
