Single Sitting
This time last year we were travelling through the Little Karoo and it was so, so hot. I thought, on a cold , wet, windy day, I would feature another of my African souvenirs. This is probably my favourite one of all. It was purchased a few years ago at a lovely little shop just outside Plettenberg Bay.
It is an abstract figurine made of cold cast bronze, which is really pretend bronze. Pieces like this are made by pouring a polyester resin blended with bronze powder into a mould. There is an African based company called Zawadi, which is the Swahili word for 'gift', who supply a lot of these type of pieces.
I love the lines and shapes of it, the way it reflects the light and the kind of stillness it imparts.
