Song to a Seagull

Weekly shop day today and, having driven down to M&S this morning, we decided to walk to Asda this afternoon to pick up the odds and sods we couldn’t get from Marks and Sparks.
Not only were we reducing our carbon footprint, but getting our daily exercise as well. Heading out past the river, I spotted this Black Headed Gull, handily perched on the information board so I could compare the artists impression with the real thing. To be honest, it looked totally different, however a quick Google search revealed that the bird is wearing its winter plumage and the picture on the board shows the summer plumage - presumably working on the basis that there are more people around looking at it in the summer. I’m guessing the artist hadn’t reckoned on a global pandemic and a winter lockdown!
Shopping duly done we took the long way home in order to maximise the exercise element of the trip. It all got a bit tricky after only a few metres, when the lightweight backpack containing the shopping decided to show it was not really up to the task, as the seams started to rip and holes appeared in the sides.
With Mrs C taking up the rear gunner position to keep an eye on the rips, I tried not to make any hurried movements or trip over anything, and headed homewards at a steady pace. Though the holes did get bigger as we walked, nothing actually fell out and the shopping made it back home without loss or damage!
All in all, a good day. Everything on the shopping list was obtained. We had a decent walk. And it didn’t rain....
