Sun Setting
Sunset today was 16.40 GMT. This was taken 25 minutes earlier, there is too much in the way to see the actual sunset from home.
We have gained 64 minutes of light since Christmas Day. The sun is moving very gradually northwards, from our earthbound perspective that is.
Today, a bit of a milestone. I heard my first mistle thrush of 2021 singing. It is one of my favourites. It is not the most beautiful, it is not the most impressive, it Is not the loudest song. It is wistful, and just a little sad to my ears. Mistle thrushes sing in the worst weather conditions (why one of their old names is “stormcock”). The sound is a precursor to the commencement of spring - this bird may well be building its nest next month, it is one of the “early birds”.
