Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Becky and Daniel didn’t want to come across town this morning on the still icy pavements, so we all had a bit of a lie in and read the Sunday papers online. SO much bad news!

The day was sunny and freezing cold, but very inviting.

What shall we do today?’
‘I know! Let’s go for a walk!’
‘Where to?’
‘Let’s go to the Meadows!

Yes, it’s the only thing we can do. I’d love to jump in the car and go somewhere else for a walk, or even just for a drive in the countryside - a favourite pastime in times gone by, but it’s always in the papers how the car parks at popular beauty spots are crowded with people who should be staying at home.

However, The Meadows were glorious with crunchy days-old snow glistening in the sunshine. Archie caught a few snowballs (Extra), piddled on a few snowmen, and rolled around in the snow every 20 yards. I left them when we got as far as the tennis courts, and they went off on a huge long walk round Queen’s Park and back (15,867 steps!).

I came home, popped into the corner shop get a loaf of my favourite sourdough (oops, a box of Maltesers fell into my shopping basket). I finished listening to my book, which I really enjoyed (The Moment of Lift, by Melinda Gates). I’ve now started ‘Leaving Time’ by Jodi Picoult. Except that I dozed off for a wee while and had to rewind quite a bit.

Finished watching Spiral, and what a gripping finale that was!
