Snow
Well this morning down south we caught up with a lot of you and woke to a blizzard. I got out just as the sun was over the horizon (allegedly) and went straight to the reserve. Unfortunately, in that 10 minutes, the snow was already turning to rain, so instead of going on up to Morn Hill, I fed the robins (2nd Extra) and turned back towards home but did a little circuit round St Bart's Church to look at what was left of the snowy roofs.
These old houses line the pathway behind the churchyard. I don't know much about the lefthand cottage, except that is was soaking up a glorious flash of sun, but the line of ancient houses adjoining it are what's left of a row of weavers' cottages (1st extra). The reason all these buildings have dressed stone in with the brick and flint is that it was free building material. The whole of this area was scattered with rubble from Henry VIII's spate of vandalism. Hyde Abbey stood just a few metres from here. You can still turn up pieces of it. I have a couple in my garden.
By the time I got home there was almost nothing left of the snow except three or four dirty lumps of it in the park stuck with twiggy arms and carrot noses.
Enjoy what's left of your Sunday and have a good start to the week xx
