2015-06-13 (Day 164) Polmont Railway Workings
The main road that passes Polmont Railway Station - Station Road - has been shut since January for replacement of the railway bridge. That bridge is being replaced as part of the Edinburgh-Glasgow Improvement Project, (EGIP), which will convert the railway to being powered by electricity rather than diesel.
Today the railway was also closed, as the old bridge was being taken out and a new one put in place.
The old bridge was broken up, piece by piece, and those pieces were lifted out by this massive crane. It's amazing to think that this monster is something I regularly drive past on the motorway, as it makes its way to wherever it is needed.
But it will be nice when Station Road is back in working order...
