Ruin Bank Wood

I was up early this morning and had a load of washing in, a loaf in the breadmaker and banana muffins in the oven before nine o'clock, so I messaged friend Angela to see if she wanted to go for a walk in the lovely, very welcome sunshine.

The proposal was to walk the Folly circuit and, surprisingly, it was black ice we had to negotiate in the village rather than mud.  There was a fair bit of squelch once we were off the roads and in to the wood though.  The light was lovely when we reached the top of the hill, so this is my blip for the day.  We paused briefly at the Folly to munch the muffins I had brought with me and for me to reminisce about accompanying David Guthrie to a folk music evening at the Scout Camp up there when I was in the sixth form!  I wonder where David is now?  Funny how memories jump in to the head like that.

Down the hill and across the silent golf course, we avoided being mown down by a sporty thing heading much too fast to the ford.  The driver obviously thought he would avoid the gas works on the main road, but how on earth he thought his low level machine would cross the ford.....Surprise, surprise he returned more slowly moments later and Angela and I took our time getting out of the way.

Several trees were down in the estate, including two across the path.  It seems the fir trees have suffered worst, could it be due to shallow roots? I don't know.
