Not corn cobs, not bread loaves
Way too hot today to be out in the blazing sun (35C max.), so back inside to set up a macro shot.
(For the macro nerds: trying out a new 2X magnification macro lens, which when fitted to a camera with an APS-C sensor effectively becomes 3X magnification - whereas most macro lenses have a maximum magnification ratio of 1X - all for quite a reasonable tariff. Not bad for a Chinese manufacturer that's only been making camera lenses for a few years.)
Tried out a variety of small, flat-ish seeds - white sesame, black sesame, chilli, linseed, poppy, black mustard and cumin. (See today's Extra photo.) Cumin seeds won the day simply because they look more textured and interesting than the others.
3X magnification is really good, but it also means 3X the difficulty getting really sharp focus. Even at relatively high ISO values and slow shutter speeds, the extremely narrow depth of field means you're constantly slipping in and out of focus with the tiniest of lens adjustments.
You can see this in the photo, where the focal plane is ever-so-slightly off being perfectly horizontal, making some seeds appear sharply in focus, and others right next to them, not so much.
