Morning sunshine
What a difference it makes to the whole day when there is sunshine in the morning. Even if it clouds over later, that bright start makes all the difference.
Temperatures and virus fears however can make one want to hide away indoors, so today's word (From Susie Dent) is:
Hibernacle
This is the word to describe a winter retreat, the equivalent for humans of the word hibernaculum, the place in which a hibernating animal passes the winter months.
Hibernacle, hibernaculum, hibernate all owe their origin to the Latin word hibernare - to pass the winter. And how about a word to describe what we do in our hibernacle - would snudging do, a word from the 17th century meaning 'keeping snug and cosy'. Related perhaps to the Scandinavian hygge.
Having said all this, perhaps today was a day to get out into the sunshine and leave your hibernacle for the more gloomy, dark days.
