"Once I had a love and it was a gas"
"Once I had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out had a Shard of Glass"
I couldn't resist nicking that line from the Blondie song "Heart of Glass" with Debbie Harry on the vocals. I have to confess I had more than one picture of Debbie on my wall as a 15 year old. I'll leave that memory hanging and hopefully the relevance of the line will become clear later.
The 'Blondie' sporting the headless Oor Wullie t-shirt in this case is Lorna Neville and is pictured with her partner in crime Brenda Douglas. We reckon these Oor Wullie t-shirts will become Kiltwalk collector's items and these two lassies earned the right to wear them as part of Team Summer, who took part in last year's Hampden to Loch Lomond Kiltwalk, raising a magnificent £32,000 to boot.
Brenda and Lorna have just celebrated their birthdays and to celebrate they treated themselves to a few days in London determined to (a) have a ball, and (b) get a picture taken next to one of London's famous landmarks and enter it into our "Landmark Picture" competition and what a picture and what a view this is, could it be a winner? (must talk to Carey about a prize).
The question is, of all the picture they submitted, why did we pick this one?
Well take the heading for the first five they sent which was "Pub Crawl round Town". Now I would have posted those pictures, no problem, however "what goes on tour, stays on tour" and I'm not sure your other halves would have enjoyed being compared to those oil clad, bronzed lads bodies.
We then had the "pictures after the night before" and to be honest I wasn't convinced that was scrambled egg on the floor and those white bed sheets have clearly been tangoed by your fake tan!!
So it transpires this picture is the "only" picture where they don't have a drink in their hand, a toy boy round their neck or touring the shops in Soho.
I'll finish where I started, my stolen lyric, which should of course been "Heart of Glass" not "Shard". For those of you who haven't recognised the building from this angle, it's The Shard.
The Shard, at 1,016 ft, is the tallest building in Western Europe and with office blocks, residential apartments and a 5-star hotel is virtually a 'vertical city', however we think the view on offer inside The Shard beats the views outside the window . . . sorry girls, we mean the t-shirts, did you think we meant . . .
Only joking you both wear Oor t-shirts very well and we look forward to catching up with you in May when you take part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk.
