Lost or discarded?

I saw this garden fork during my walk in Acomb woods today. Why would anyone have garden tools with them in the wood. What is the significance of the number on the handle??

We had a lot of fine snow this morning but it made little difference to the snow and ice on the ground. The morning slipped through out fingers.

I walked this afternoon. It was grey and dark. Underfoot was either icy and slippery or muddy and slippery. I did not fall.

Tonight we watched Simon Armitage on one of the Winter Walks on Channel Four. I enjoyed seeing the countryside of North Yorkshire and it made me want to walk there again.

The news has been very upsetting today. We are plodding on.
