Sexy Orchids

Colorful, fragrant and with a name that when translated from its Greek origin (orkhis) means testicle, what's not to like??? The double tuberous root is where it actually got its name but still, those Greek really new how to pick a name.
I came across this orchid at Home Depot and although this particular color was my favorite, there were so many beautiful ones to choose from. I tried to get a good close up thinking maybe I could try and do a watercolor painting.
We babysat for my granddaughter last night and she did not want to go to sleep. I think we all finally passed out around 2 a.m.! She wasn't being bad, quite funny in fact she just didn't want to sleep. Needless to say we slept in this morning and had a late start to the day. There was a rumor the sun had been out earlier but we must have missed it because it was cloudy and drizzling most of the afternoon. Seeing these beautiful orchids was like a breath of fresh air. Aside from the holidays, winter is a colorless time of year and I for one miss seeing color. I think we are finally over the hump now and we can look forward to longer, sunnier days. I feel a real sense of accomplishment getting thru this winter. Before we know it, it will be March and then St. Patrick's Day and then SPRING!!!!!
