The Arrival of The Big Boys

.......... every year the Rooks come in to get food from the feeders for a few weeks because food is so scarce in the fields but it doesn’t usually start until February/March time. I’m guessing they’ve started early because most of the local fields are under water at the moment.

I do find them a wee bit intimidating with their big sharp beaks but in reality they are extremely shy and I had to do some serious slow stalking to get this shot ........ even then this was the only one I was allowed to take before he was off ........ but I’m certain he and his mates will return ;-)

When several of them start coming regularly we have to wire the feeders to the branches because they work out how to get them off the branches and they fly away with them. We lost two in a short space of time and couldn’t work out where they went then I happened to witness one being stolen ........ I watched in awe as the bird worked out how to unhook it, it was amazing, they are so clever ;-))
