Political Martyrs’ Monument (1844)
After Storm Bella had buggered off overnight, the weather improved as I ran round the toun. The Queen’s Park was hoaching; I felt sorry for the cyclists on the Dunsapie road due to the numbers of wandering pedestrians. Passing Calton Hill I popped in to the Old Calton Burial Ground for a breather and spied this 27m high sandstone obelisk. Somebody had too much money when they commissioned that thing.
I think I’ve become fatigued with silently assessing other citizens non-adherence to the lockdown ‘rules’. I just know my family are abiding by them and that’s what matters.
