Stainton Aqueduct #171

When I came here  on my hip rehab walk in 2019, this bit of the canal path was closed because the aqueduct had been badly damaged in storms in 2015. (see extra I've "borrowed" from the Westmorland Gazette) The restoration  of the Grade II listed aqueduct was finally completed in October 2020 enabling me to walk along this bit of the canal path and to view the £2.2m restoration, which had taken very much longer than expected because of high winter river levels .  We could see the problem,  today the footpath under the aqueduct was completely flooded with very fast flowing water.
The water we are looking at is Stainton Beck- the canal goes across the top .
