Boxing Day treats
We met as our full 'informal childcare bubble' yesterday: Richard and I, Jack and Ruth and their partners, all three grandchildren. We also looked after Richard's youngest niece for the day - staying within the rules, just. Erin, the niece, would have been alone otherwise. As she lives within just over an hour's drive, this seemed the best plan all round.
In the current context, I know we've been amazingly lucky to be able to do this. It felt very special. As the first Christmas since Graham's death (my ex, and Jack and Ruth's Dad), it also made an enormous difference to be able to be together. And it made up a little, for Jack and Marianna, for their missed trip to the Greek side of the family.
It was a lively Christmas day, with a good time had by all. Richard and I have been taking it easy today, and enjoying these beautiful Syrian biscuits (among other Boxing Day treats). Jack works for the Refugee Council in Yorks and Humberside, and knows the refugee group who made them, based in Leeds. So they were part of our Christmas present. Sesame, cardamom, dates... mmm.
My personal treat, today, was taking off to bed for an afternoon nap. What luxury! Jack and Marianna and Frieda had stayed overnight, and Frieda didn't sleep particularly well - not surprising, being out of her routine. So we all needed a bit of a catch-up today.
Our Christmas lights and decorations are in the extra.
