People Are Strange

I have previously alluded to the fact that our neighbours love Christmas. Always the first to get the lights and decorations up in our road, and they always give us presents.
Most years the presents are a little “off the wall” - they love their car boot sales and our present is usually made up of whatever “bargains” they have found during the year.
But this year has seen new heights reached in weirdness. Obviously, no car boots to attend this year so they have had to go to the only shops open. Which, in this case, means supermarkets. So, we are the recipients of a variety of items from the Asda “George at Home” aisle. All very nice but still a little baffling. From their kitchen window, they can clearly see we have a knife block and an oven that has a temperature control. The chopping boards and the oven gloves? You’ve surely got to assume that people have these sort of things in their house. Fair enough, you might think they may be past their best and need replacing, but does that really make them suitable Christmas gifts? And that still doesn’t explain why they wrapped the oven thermometer in a glittery box with a butterfly on top!
It’s the thought that counts though and it is very nice of them to go to the trouble of getting us something. And - to be fair - our oven gloves are pretty rancid and could do with being replaced. But as for the other stuff? Well, keep an eye out at a car boot sale near you next summer. Just have to make sure it’s not one next door are planning on going to!
